Everyone should have these car safety essentials in their cars at all times.
While you can purchase emergency safety kits that include items such as a booster cable, flashlight, and first aid kit, you can also take a DIY approach, which is not only cost-effective but also allows you to use items you already have. Additionally, the items on this checklist aren't just for emergencies or safety; they're categorized to fit various needs.
Car repair and maintenance
Spare tire (in good condition), along with a tire jack and tire iron, because without them, the spare tire is useless.
Fix-a-Flat, which can plug a minor leak just long enough to get you to the auto shop.
Jumper cables
Your car’s manual, which should be in the glove compartment already.
A tire pressure gauge. Also, checking tire pressure on a regular basis can improve handling, increase fuel economy, promote tire longevity, and even save lives.
Duct tape and WD-40
Repair contact information. A business card for your auto repair shop, your AAA card (if you’re a member), and car insurance claim forms will also come in handy—you can find some of this stuff online, but you never know when you’ll be caught in an area with no cell coverage or facing an ill-times dead phone battery. Store them in your glove compartment.
